Mallard Wall Picture
Built in 1938, the Mallard was in fact named after a duck and was the first streamlined locomotive designed to exceed 100 mph. It in fact did so July 3, 1938 a record for steam that stands to this day. Mallard was designed by the Sir Nigel Gresley, chief engineer of the LNER rail line. He thought of the name "Mallard" when feeding ducks at Salisbury Hall. The mighty locomotive was restored in 1988 and now resides in the National Rail Museum in York, England. A streamlined wonder #4468 with tender is captured as a three dimensional wall model. Planed to thin wood sheets, the pieces are laser cut and assembled by model builders in Scotland. 17" x 7".
